Recognizing that everyone brings their own strengths, backgrounds and new perspectives, we empower you to be yourself. That uniqueness shapes the culture of belonging we are so proud of.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Database Administrator to join our platform team, operating as the technical authority for a critical estate of distributed database and data platform services. You will take ownership of the stability, scalability, performance, and operational health of multiple clustered database technologies and related infrastructure that underpin our core products.

This role combines deep technical database administration with a strong DevOps mindset, working closely with Cloud, Security, and Engineering teams to ensure our data platforms remain reliable, compliant, and ready to scale as the business grows.

What You'll Be Doing

As the primary point of ownership for our database and distributed data platform estate, you will:

  • Provide operational administration and ownership of distributed NoSQL database clusters, search and indexing platforms, and distributed coordination services, plus any related platform technologies introduced through future strategic initiatives;
  • Configure environments according to intended purpose, workload, and operational requirements — including sizing, capacity planning, high availability, replication, and resilience;
  • Perform performance tuning, data retention and lifecycle management, and infrastructure scaling and growth planning;
  • Plan, implement, and test disaster recovery and backup strategies, ensuring recovery procedures are documented and demonstrably effective;
  • Maintain compliance with data retention, auditability, and operational governance requirements, including security hardening and access management;
  • Proactively monitor platform health, improve alerting and observability, and lead incident investigation, root cause analysis, and remediation;
  • Support infrastructure provisioning, automation, Infrastructure-as-Code, and CI/CD integration across cloud infrastructure;
  • Lead platform migrations, upgrades, and technology lifecycle management with minimal disruption to delivery teams;
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on operational readiness reviews for new services, and support them with platform best practices;
  • Define, maintain, and enforce operational standards across all environments, and share knowledge across the team to reduce key-person dependency risk;
  • Participate in incident response and problem management, including post-incident analysis.

What You'll Bring:

  • Strong, hands-on experience administering large-scale distributed database clusters in production environments;
  • Practical experience with search/indexing platform operations, tuning, and maintenance;
  • Experience managing distributed coordination services;
  • Good knowledge of cloud infrastructure and cloud operations;
  • A DevOps mindset, with experience in automation and Infrastructure-as-Code;
  • Strong understanding of scalability, performance, resilience, and high-availability principles;
  • Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes;
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills;
  • Experience operating business-critical, high-availability production platforms;
  • Ability to work confidently across multiple engineering domains and stakeholders.

We'd Like You To Master In

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach, able to work independently and manage multiple priorities within deadlines;
  • An operational ownership mindset — proactively identifying risks, recommending improvements, and driving platform maturity;
  • Objective, impartial decision-making based on clear criteria;
  • Openness to differing perspectives and the flexibility to adapt your approach to achieve the best outcome;
  • A commitment to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement, helping build an operationally resilient and sustainable platform function.
