The role

We’re looking for a Design System Designer to help shape and scale the design foundations of our UKI Design System. You’ll work across 3 UKI brands and platforms to define, evolve, and maintain a robust design system that enables teams to design and build consistent, high-quality user experiences.
You’ll collaborate closely with product designers, engineers, content and brand teams to ensure our design system supports real product needs, accelerates delivery, and maintains a high bar for craft.
You’ll contribute to everything from component architecture and interaction patterns, to documentation and adoption strategies. You’ll also be encouraged to experiment with new tools, AI, and emerging technologies to improve how our design system is built, maintained, and used.
A portfolio showcasing strong design craft, system thinking, and real-world application of design systems is required.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design, build, and evolve a scalable design system used across multiple products and brands
  • Define and maintain core foundations (colour, typography, spacing, layout, accessibility)
  • Create, refine, and govern reusable components, patterns, and interaction models
  • Partner closely with engineers to ensure components are production-ready and align with code implementations
  • Support product designers by enabling efficient, consistent, and flexible design workflows
  • Document system principles, usage guidelines, and best practices to drive adoption
  • Ensure consistency, accessibility, and quality across products while allowing for brand expression
  • Gather feedback from design and development teams and iterate on the system accordingly
  • Explore and experiment with AI tools and emerging technologies to improve system scalability and team efficiency
  • Advocate for design system thinking and standards across teams

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience as a Design System Designer, Product Designer with strong design system ownership, or in a similar role
  • Strong understanding of design systems, component libraries, and scalable UI patterns
  • Excellent skills in UI, interaction design, and visual consistency across platforms
  • Proficiency in Figma (including components, variants, and libraries) and collaborative design tools
  • Ability to translate complex requirements into clear, reusable system solutions
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, particularly with engineers and product designers
  • Experience working with multi-brand or large-scale design systems
  • Familiarity with frontend technologies (e.g. React, Storybook) and design-to-code workflows
  • Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices
  • Familiarity with AI-powered design or automation tools
  • Experience defining or contributing to governance models for design systems
